ANNOUNCEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

Summer 2001 

PROGRAM: " The Tucker Signing Strategies for Reading Workshop/Training Program" (funded by FY01 Title VI Grant)

PRESENTER: Dr. Bethanie Tucker

DESCRIPTION: 

This is a one-day workshop that provides participants with kinesthetic-tactile approach to the teaching of reading. This method entails a system of hand signs that prompts associations between letters or word chunks and the sounds they represent. It is designed to be implemented  as a supplement to conventional reading programs and can be used with students of any age between kindergarten and fourth grade level.

PDP's: 

A certificate of attendance for 6 hours will be given that can be combined with follow-up documented work with the Tucker Signing Strategies for Reading and submitted to Dr. Seihoun for a 10 or more PDP certificate.

CAVEAT: The workshop is opened to every teacher with priority given to gr. 1-3 teachers

Each participant will be provided with a Tucker Signing Strategies for Reading Workbook (training manual)

Each confirmed participant will be required to sign an agreement that they will not copy the training manual in any way or train others on the Tucker Signing Strategies   and that such strategies will be used with only the participant's students

DATE: Monday, August 27, 2001       8:30 - 3:30 P.M. (with one hour for a provided lunch)
